cbd-misconceptions

CBD is one of the most well-known cannabinoids in hemp. Even though the use of cannabinoids for the treatment of physical and mental health symptoms has been around for thousands of years, the use of CBD has become especially popular recently.

There is a lot of information out there regarding CBD, but there is also a lot of misinformation. Here are 6 of the biggest misconceptions about CBD:

Misconception 1: CBD gets you high

Hands down the biggest and most common misconception about CBD is that it gets you high. Because people associate CBD with marijuana, they assume that the compound causes a high. The cannabinoid that is responsible for the psychoactive effect of marijuana is THC. CBD is not psychoactive.

On top of that, most CBD products are derived from the hemp plant. Both marijuana and hemp are part of the cannabis family. However, hemp naturally contains low levels of THC and high levels of CBD. Legal hemp-derived CBD extract contains less than 0.3% of THC.

Misconception 2: CBD is a cure

Many market CBD as being a “cure” to many ailments. While it has significant positive effects on several conditions and illnesses, it is not a cure. It acts more as a support to your endocannabinoid system to achieve balance in your systems which tackle the root cause of the symptoms that are experienced.

Misconception 3: CBD is only safe for adults

CBD oil is safe for all ages and for pets. Remember – CBD is not psychoactive, and it has a wide variety of health benefits. For kids, research supports the use of CBD to reduce the frequency of seizures in children with epilepsy, support for ADHD, reducing anxiety, and improving sleep. For pets, CBD can help with separation anxiety, reducing inflammation for hip & joint health, and improving appetite.

Misconception 4: Isolate is better than full-spectrum

Isolated CBD products remove all other cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds found in the hemp plant. Full-spectrum products are made with the entire plant and include terpenes, extra cannabinoids, and other plant compounds.

Because it contains a higher concentration of CBD, single-compound CBD may seem like a better option. However, research suggests that full-spectrum CBD products are actually more effective, creating the “entourage effect” or synergy in your body.

Misconception 5: CBD is a sedative

Due to THC having some sedative effects, it is often believed that CBD does as well. CBD can reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality, but it typically won’t make you feel drowsy.

Misconception 6: All CBD is the same

As with all products, the quality of CBD products can vary widely between different manufacturers. There are different processes and protocols for growing, extracting, storing, and packaging that can have an effect on quality.

On top of that, there are different concentrations available as well as isolate and full-spectrum products. Before buying, do some research to understand what would be best suited for you.
